praise God for answered prayers

This little miracle just blows my mind. Her recovery and progress is nothing short of a HUGE testimony of God’s goodness and grace. I am so thankful that she and her family live so close by. It’s so fun witnessing and celebrating her beautiful life.

She loves to tilt her head and say “Cheese”!

I remember so clearly thinking that we may never see her suck that thumb again. : )

freeze time

June 9th, 2010  |  Warm Fuzzies  |   |  Comments (2)

I wish there was some way to make time stand still … to linger long enough to ensure I never take certain moments for granted. To gaze into my kids eyes and soak every ounce of them up so that when memories get replaced and build on the past, I know for sure I won’t forget those little breath taking nuggets of time.

I am always asking my kids to just stop growing. I feel that to the best of my capabilities I am fully aware that these years with them all under one roof will fly by. The past ten have flown! I want to savor the laughter, the giggles, the mischievous looks, the silliness, the pouts and even their cries. I want it to be forever etched in my heart that each hug, each kiss, each squeeze is a precious privilege that I am so blessed to have.

My heart is full.

Here’s my first. My only boy. He gets me.

I love those summer freckles. I love those eyes. I love every little thing about him!

the garden is really growing

June 9th, 2010  |  Garden  |   |  Comments (1)

Crazy how fast everything grows.

We have lots of blooms on the vine of our watermelon plants. All of them are boy flowers except one. Since some girls flowers will close up after 24 hours, we decided to help mother nature out by pollinating her ourselves. #2 picked a boy flower and rubbed in all over the girl. Hopefully #2 wasn’t too rough and didn’t cause any damage to the female. Next time I think we’ll be more gentle and use a q-tip. Can’t wait to see what happens.

This weekend I took pictures of a family in Atlanta. This little pup belonged to them. She is so cute and her coloring is so unique.

Guess how old she is? She was really precious.

See that engraving on the gun? That is right … it’s an official Red Ryder BB gun.

This was taken early yesterday morning. He ate his breakfast on the porch with his gun loaded and ready by his side.

I love my boy!!

my best friends

May 25th, 2010  |  Kid Conversations, Kids, Warm Fuzzies  |   |  Comments (2)

I love these two. I don’t know what I would do without them.

It’s so fun having girls. I love the way way they depend on each other. I love the way they play together. I love how they lay in a single twin bed some nights and read to one another. I even love reflecting back on some of their biggest fights. They can get so aggravated at each other and then it amazes me how fast they make up.

My favorite thing #2 has ever said about her younger sister was one night after they had a huge disagreement/shouting match. I had them both on the couch talking through how I wanted them to love one another. #2 started to cry. She said, “Mommy, it’s so sad you don’t have a sister. I need Sydney mommy, I really need her.” She was so sincere and her tears were so big, it just melted me that she felt such a strong connection to her sibling.

We were finishing up our science lesson outside when the girls climbed on the big pot and started to play. They were so super cute. I had to go and grab my camera. I love catching candid moments of my kids.

somebody wants some babies

May 24th, 2010  |  Chickens  |   |  Comments (0)

Ruby is broody – which means she REALLY wants some babies. She will not get out of that nesting box. She won’t get out to eat, drink or even roam the yard. She just sits. We only have one nest in our coop which is now a problem. When one of the other girls has the need to lay an egg, they yell a few cussing squawks at her. She responds by just sitting. They are then forced to just sit down beside her and drop one of their own. She will then take their egg for herself and keep it nice and warm. When we want the eggs we have to reach up underneath her and pull them out. I almost feel guilty as I walk away leaving her egg-less, knowing she will continue to sit and wait though nothing is beneath her. The poor girl. She will never get a chance at being a mom since with gave Games the rooster the boot.

This is Baby Coffee saying, “Tell that Ruby to STOP trying to hatch MY eggs!”

my first garden

May 24th, 2010  |  Garden  |   |  Comments (0)

I have always wanted my own garden and this year I HAVE ONE! Our yard is super shady but thankfully one of my best friends Jenn (the one who just adopted from China) lives right behind me and she has the perfect sunny back yard. Last year they had their first garden and this year we are doing one together. It’s a lot of work but it’s so fun to see everything grow.

I used any container I could find to start the seeds. My back porch was a dirty disaster for several days.

grd-2

First I was hoping to grow a mess of tomatoes on my back porch. My sweet friend Rena gave me 15 tomato plants, all different varieties, that she had started from seed. I bought the jungle mix and planted them in any container I could find.

My plans changed after all trees in our yard were full of fresh spring leaves. My porch wasn’t the sunny little spot I was hoping it would be. So I loaded them up (at this point they were already 3 ft. tall) on the back of my aunt’s pick up truck and slowly, I mean SLOWLY, drove them around neighborhood and over to the garden.

Well, here she is, our garden. Look at that nice black soil. Jenn’s hubby did a great job of tilling it up and I even got some of our chicken poop in there!

Jenn planted bush bean seeds and here are some of the first sprouts.

First bloom – a zucchini flower. It dried up and fell off : (

Our first tomatoes! These are called Pink Brandywine. I JUST CAN”T wait to make my first batch of salsa from my own tomatoes!!

a turtle

May 23rd, 2010  |  Homeschooling  |   |  Comments (0)

This turtle has been lurking around the garden for several days. Today I picked him up and brought him home to let the kids get a closer look.

We plucked 10 leeches from his body. 6 were clumped all together just above his/her head. The kids were disgusted yet fascinated by the little parasites. They tried to kill the leaches by smushing them with rocks but the little boogers were tough. SO, we held them with tweezers and lit them up with a match. It was actually quite fun watching them swell and then pop from the heat.

Tomorrow we’ll search the web to learn all we can about this big guy and his little parasitic friends.

#1 is video taping the leaches in action. They moved pretty fast.
