wild animal rescue

The kids discovered a opossum stuck in our fence. This isn’t our first attempt to save a wild animal, but unlike last time, this one really was in danger AND it never came in our house!

re-entry

The day after a vacation, is never a favorite.

Today I had to make a call to our adoption agency regarding some forms that are about to expire … long story – so fast forward to the end … and well … let’s just say I got real emotional. The whole thing was like another slap in the face about the WAIT. I know there is nothing anybody can personally do to speed things up and I know, believe me I honestly know it’s in God’s timing … but today … I am not fond of God’s timing regarding our adoption. Maybe tomorrow I will be again, but right now it completely sucks. I want another child so bad and even seeing other people with little ones is really hard. Tomorrow I am sure it will be better and I know I’ll have more of these types of days to face … and in the end when we have her in our arms … the wait will have all been worth it … but still the reality of my today is … I HATE THE WAIT!

While on vacation we got Macy’s “baby holding parts” removed even though #2 begged we let her have just one child. The heat came back and lasted over two weeks. I just couldn’t handle putting panty liner’s in my girls hello kitty underwear (the diapers are a rip off!) and hearing my kids constantly tell her, “Macy be still, we need to pull you panties up.” My one litter dream has been put aside and I have come to realize, puppies are just not worth dealing with your dog in heat.

Well, we’re about to head to our’s homeschool group’s afternoon at the park. Whoo-hoo!

playing with sand

It was our last day and we didn’t get off the beach until 7 pm. I soaked up every minute of sun that I could. I still haven’t gotten a photo of everyone together. I hope to accomplish that tomorrow before we drive away.

One of my personal favorite things to do at the beach is to create random things with sand and sea shells.

I am playing with some different settings … here’s some pics of my stuff.

The girls and I built a sand city – houses, roads, trees, a church, grocery store and a pizza parlor. This is the spiral church.

Lots of drips, we love them! All buildings are decorated with drip roofs, fences and drip trees.

These little mollusk shells look like butterflies once they’ve split open. #3 and I loved them!

our morning walk

We three woke up before everyone else, so we decided to go for a walk. The kids looked for treasures, collecting the colored shells that they valued the most. The beach was peaceful and calm, refreshing and alive. I love it here. We’ve been coming to the same beach since I was in kindergarten. I have so many memories here and it’s wonderful to experience my kids making their own.

sugary sweet

May 21st, 2008  |  Kids  |   |  Comments (6)

This precious piece of love has been as sweet as honey today.
This week she has been BFF with her sister, served her brother by fixing his cereal, comforted the youngest when she has gotten hurt, given me her coins taped to a piece of ruled paper (just in case I “need it to buy food and other stuff”), not complained about cleaning up – today by her own choice she cleaned her entire room by herself, she’s been extra snuggly (jumping in your arms and wrapping her skinny little legs as tight as she can around you) … I could go on and on.

She’s more like a behind the scenes kinda girl (total opposite from her sister), shy and reserved, but those eyes of hers say so much. I can just get lost in them.

I am SO glad she is mine!

the birds and the bees

So … let’s see … when our kids have asked the typical “where does a baby come from,” question we’ve explained it as …

God takes a piece of the mommy and a piece of the daddy and puts it together in a special place within a mommy’s tummy where a miracle happens and a baby begins to grow.

So far … it’s worked. Oh, and I had 3 c-sections, so the answer to how the babies come out has been “the doctors cut the baby out.”

Well, as a family we were watching Dirty Jobs just the other night. The episode was all about dairy cows. How they milk them, what they do with their poo, how they “get them pregnant” and how the vets help deliver the babies.

My man and I hesitated for a second about watching it, but we decided to continue on. As the show threw out teasers for what was to come, #1 asked, “Is a cow one of those animals that poops their babies out.” It took me a minute to be able to speak with out just busting out laughing. I just said. “No, there is a special mommy hole that the babies come out of. It’s near their bottom, but it’s a hole God made for the babies.”

After the milking and the pooing the show went on to explain artificial insemination and they kept using the words bull semen. So, #1 asks “what is bull semen?” I explain, “It’s the daddy part that combines with the mommy part that God uses to make a baby.” Hoping that would be enough he goes on to ask, “Well, what part of the daddy to they put in there? Like part of it’s hoof or a piece of it’s heart?” Trying so so SO hard to keep a straight face all I could say was, “See there’s a special place from inside the daddy that they get it.” Then he’s quick with this next one, “So how do humans do it?” Hummmmmm, I am not ready for to fully explain that one, “How about I explain that part maybe next year.” Thankfully he was completely satisfied with that answer.

Whew.

local park

I am so excited about the new local park we just discovered. Lots of trails, creeks, natural stone bridges, stone walls, lots of poison ivy (not so excited about), a playground and large rocks with a shallow small waterfall -it’s one we’ll visit often. It felt so good to get away from home (mainly the computer) to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

and of course we couldn’t have an outdoor excursion without some little person getting hurt. :(
