bye bye spidey

January 29th, 2008  |  Kids  |   |  Comments (11)

This weekend I was organizing the kid’s room, AH-Gain, and I found some Spiderman underwear under #1’s bed. They looked kinda old so I asked himi if he still wanted them. His reply, “No … I need new underwear.” I asked, “Why? You have a whole drawer full.” His answer, “Spiderman is for little kids. I want plain underwear, nothing on them.” He also told me to pack up his Spiderman and Power Ranger costumes and give them away.

My boy is growing up.

We’re going out today to get some new plain undies.

A look back at his younger days ….

baby

January 25th, 2008  |  Adoption  |   |  Comments (5)

I am sitting at my desk, dog asleep in my lap, full of chili (which seems to be growing in my stomach) and I spot the cover of my new issue of Family Fun magazine. The cutest little Asian girl with a precious smile is like staring at me … I think … where is my girl. When will I get my baby? This wait is brutal. I don’t talk much about it b/c honestly it feels almost as if it is NEVER going to happen. So … that is it. The reasons are reasons and I don’t feel like talking about why the wait is so long. I am tried of trying to explain. It’s just taking a LONG time. Maybe in the next 2 or even 3 years, I’ll have my last baby.

new do

Macy_0106081.jpgLast week I took Macy to the vet for puppy shots. One of the techs asked if she was a poodle mix. In my mind I was like, “NO!” So I knew at that point she needed to have a schnauzer cut. A few nights later, I got the urge to cut her myself. Thanks to the world wide web I quickly found several sites and a video on how to groom a schnauzer. For some bizarre reason I chose to start right at the kids bedtime … thinking we’d (Macy and I) would sit quietly in the bathroom and shave away. Oh, what a funny girl I am. My dominant little pup hated every second of it. For thirty minutes she put up quite a fight. She growled, yelped, barked, snarled and tried to bite the clippers more times that I can count. Thank goodness my determination won over hers, as if there was any doubt, and she finally surrendered while I pinned her to the floor and shaved her fluffy curls away. I did feel sorry for her as she whimpered and cried as if she was about to die. One hour later (with the kids gathered all around) we were done and I stood back to admire my work. I was sort of pleased with the cut, but I tortured her the next day as I cut a path between her uni-brow and shaped her beard up even more.

Today she got it again and next week I will probably do it once more. I know it doesn’t hurt her and I really need her to used to grooming. If I can do it, it will save us mega bucks, and you know I am all about pinching pennies. She was a real champ today. She only tried to bite the clippers twice and she only whimpered once. I was so proud of her.

oooooooh … my booty

January 22nd, 2008  |  Exercise, Kids  |   |  Comments (4)

Yesterday was my first day back at the gym since Christmas … I am hurting today. My body pump class kicked my booty big time. It hurts to walk, sit, stand, reach … just about any physical movement has some type of pain associated with it.

On to other news…

My girls are like BFF these days. Normally #1 is in the center and the girls take turns pairing up with him. The past few days, no matter what #1 tried to do, he can’t wiggle in between them. He made the comment this morning, “The girls are really building a good relationship.” It does make me happy. My girls are complete opposites so I am cherishing every minute that they laugh, play, wrestle, color, hug and love together.

I was a good girl and posted only pictures of my man and me. That doesn’t mean I didn’t mix photos of friends and family and laughed my booty off!

snow

January 20th, 2008  |  Random  |   |  Comments (4)

We headed north this weekend to see my parents and it SNOWED. Okay, I know you northerners are like, “What’s the big deal?” But to us in the south, it’s a HUGE deal. The kids were so so excited. In preparations for the weather, my mom bought Macy a little jacket. She freaked out in it at first but once she was outside in the cold, she didn’t mind a bit. It was a great weekend. I am so thankful the kids finally got to experience snow.

my hat

This was my hat when I was a kid. I wore it a lot. I love that she digs through her dress up stuff and picks it out. I love how it fits her. I also love how she pouts. I can’t remember exactly what she was pouting about, but she looked so adorable, I just had to take her picture.

celebrating together

January 16th, 2008  |  Birthdays  |   |  Comments (5)

It’s almost not my birthday anymore. It’s been a good one, better than good. I feel very loved. Thanks to all who called, sent cards, wrote on my facebook wall, emailed and left comments. (I am smiling really really BIG!) I really appreciate it!

Well, if you read my man’s blog, then you’ll know that he’s in Vegas right now … but … fortunately I didn’t have to celebrate alone. Last week I was talking with a homeschooling mom and we began to make plans for dinner this week b/c my man would be out of town and her husband is working at night. Through our conversation we discovered that we shared the same birthday. You should have seen us, we were as excited as two little elementary school girls. So, tonight we celebrated together. We had Longhorns take out, we feed our kids pizza, we ate cake and ice cream and we had a wonderful time.

Happy birthday Katie. I loved sharing a birthday with you!
