It was a fun night. Our first Halloween with all the cousins. We had quite a crew. #1 was such a handsome Harry Potter. #2 looked precious as Hermione and #3 was the cutest little Rock Star I have ever laid eyes on. The kids pleaded with me to wear my entire Halloween costume. I thought it would be best to leave the owl at home, but I did sport the Blondy tonight. Man that thing gets itchy after a while.
Hope you all had a good one too!
#1 thought it would be cool to tuck his tie into his while collared shirt.
The end. #3 is the only one who was obsessed with the candy. I could not keep her out of it. Oh, and she refused to wear her glamor hat, so she just had pink hair pieces tied in with yellow bits of yarn and some itty bitty hair clips. She still looked adorable though.
Tonight is Halloween, and yes we do trick-o-treat. Many of the families around us do not even acknowledge today. In our house we dress up and just have fun. This is one holiday I have just chosen to not over analyze. (I am sure you are shocked!) Anyways. #3 is going to be a little Rock Star, so we practiced her makeup and hair today. She’ll be wearing a hat that should cover up all the clips. #2 will be Hermione from Harry Potter. She didn’t need any makeup but we did it up to try it once. She hated it. I was able to get a few pics and then she went to wash it off. Honestly it’s crazy seeing the girls in make up. They look so growny. I am not sure if I will ever be ready for them to be teenagers!
Okay, so I am stealing this from another blogger. She linked to this post today and when I read it … my heart felt full. Please read the entire post. Not just the snippet/teaser that I have copied.
On the milestone of my thirtieth birthday a few years ago, my sister-in-law presented me with a journal embossed with one simple word: PEACE. I cried. It was all I wanted. Just that one simple, frustratingly elusive word: PEACE. The homeschooling mother of (then) five young children, eight years of age and under, I was desperate, at a breaking point, for some place of serenity. I held the journal in my hands, lip trembling, tears streaming. PEACE. How could I find it? I had to find it.
Two comments today about my hair. Any and every woman loves to receive a compliment, and on her hair, it’s a nice little boost. So, I am at the grocery store. The girl … girl, yes girl … was bagging my groceries. She looks up at me, smiles and shyly says, “I really like your hair.” I am thinking oh .. she likes my cut, how sweet and you know it’s curly today which isn’t my favorite, I need to be more confident about it curly, and so on … then … she asks, “Do you dye it like that?” Of course at this point my mind is screeching to a halt while my mouth curls up and gives the sweetest grin and somehow my tongue overrides my brain and I politely say, “No. Thanks for the compliment.” I mean comeON, who dyes their hair gray, and is it really that obvious that I am THAT gray? Well my answer to that question comes just hours later. I am in Target browsing through the girls clothing section and for some reason I look up and this lady and I make eye contact. She is cruising down the main aisle headed for check out. We are a good fifteen feet away from each other. She stops her buggy and says, “I like your hair.” Again I think, oh, now she must love the cut. Um, no … she says, ” I love the color.” I guess it is that obvious.
A spontaneous trip to Berry was just amazing. My man had tickets to the Florida Georgia game and my parents decided to make a quick trip to Rome so we tagged along. It turned out to be an unforgettable weekend. To quote #1, “This is been one of the best days of my life and I didn’t even play with any toys.”
Saturday – 6:45 am hike with CoCo (I didn’t get a single pic with her!!!AHHHH!) to the House o’ Dreams. We got to the top of the mountain right at sunrise. Mid morning – My parents, the kids and I hike around the woods behind Swan Lake and Frost Chapel. Mid afternoon – #3 was over hiking so she stayed behind to nap with mom and the rest of us hiked around old Victory Lake. That night Dad treated us to a steak at Longhorns…. yummy! Later that night mom and dad had to head home and CoCo and her daughter Neely came and spent the night.
Sunday- Early morning I got almost a full hour of snuggle time with the kids in bed. Mid morning – random hike through the woods. After lunch we packed up and then headed to main campus to go through the Ford buildings. Before we left the kids and I ended up in the Ford Auditorium. We all sat down and the kids started asking a lot of questions about college.
#2 – “You mean, you can got out of the buildings whenever you want too, you don’t have to ask somebody?”
#1 – “Can you go and get groceries whenever you want?”
#2- “Can you do your home work, whenever you want?”
#2 – “What did you eat when you were in college?”
#1 – “I hope you and daddy can afford to send me to college here.”
#2 – “When I get bigger I want to live in a dorm.”
It was so really neat watching my children enjoy and love a place that is SO special to me. The experience of going to college at Berry is …well I don’t know how to put it into words. Thanks mom and dad for allowing me to study there.
I woke up to this and almost immediately I got stressed out. I hate starting out days when you feel like things are already literally stacked up against you. But we made it through. I am not sure when I will get over the fact that it takes hours to clean a home and seconds, really milli-seconds (not sure if that is correct, but I really don’t care, you get the point) to destroy it. After lunch, the kids and I got things back in order, and they did it without whining and complaining. WHOO HOO!
Speaking of cleaning, my #2 is a little cleaning machine. I mean it had to happen to at least one of our kids. My man, his mom, his grandmom, my mom, are all neat freaks so the gene had to come up in one of my offspring. She loves to help me with the house work. #3 thinks she wants to help but she can wimp out real quick, #2 will stay with me for the long haul. She helps me sweep, she asks to make my bed and her siblings and anything that comes in a spray bottle, she is all over it! Now, she can make a mess, like dumping out a bunch of toys, but, she is the neatest of the 3 and the most orderly. It will be interesting to see how this trait plays out the older she gets.
Here are some silly pictures of her that she did in photo booth today. She is my shy, and I mean SHY, one. And since her sister is a huge ham, I hardly ever get any silly pictures of her. She is my snuggly lovable beautiful girl.
I am so thankful to have 3 unique, beautiful, talented and extremely different kids.
My #3 comes running into the house, “Mommy, mommy, come and see! It’s a kicket!”
So, here is the video of the cricket…
I know … it’s a grasshopper and I hate my voice! I hate that I turned the video off at the very end. Not even 30 seconds later, the things jumped/flew at me and over my head and I screamed like one of my little girls!
Oh, and because I was so focused on the bug, I didn’t realized that #1 was grumpy b/c he could not find his pirate sword. Once we got back into the house, I discover that one of his sisters had lied about its whereabouts and it was stuffed down the leg of her pants. : )
I love the freedom we have. My dad was in town and it was awesome being able to eat lunch with him at a local Mexican place. (Like the peek-a-boo surprise in the background?)
Oh, I forgot. Right after we ordered I excused myself from the table to go use the bathroom. We were meeting for a late lunch and I was so hungry that I was almost grumpy and I just didn’t pay close enough attention to the men and women’s signs. Luckily the girls were not with me (which is not the norm) b/c I walked straight into the men’s room. I stopped and thought, ok, this isn’t right. Urinals? Thankfully nobody was standing there.
